The content and the distribution ch aracters of Pb,Cu,Cr,Cd in lichen an d ant were evaluated, and the relatio nship between the ratio of metal accumulation in the two bio -indicators and the levels of heavy metal in soils was als o examined. The study showed that lichen had a remarkable a bility to accumulate Pb and the internal contents of the heavy metal incre ased with the levels of heavy metal in soils. It was also concluded that the lichen was easier to be contaminated by heavy metal than ant s.The ant was sensitive to Pb and Cd,but it exhibit ed some ability to inhibit the sustaining accumulation of the heavy metals.Unlike Pb and Cd,the correlation between the internal Cu contents and Cu levels in soil was less significant.Taking Cd,though the correlation between the internal contents and levels in the s oil when the contents were low,but it would not be the case when the Cd level in soil was high. The index of pollution may be also used to assess the environmental contamination and the metal toxicity to the two indicators.
