In order to investigate the intestinal parasitic infection and Toxoplasma gondii in goats in the Yangzhou area,a total of 200 serum and 190 fecal samples from 12 goat farms were respectively detected by indirect hemagglutination( IHA) for T. gondii antibody, and by the saturated flotation technique and nylon sifter elutriation and sieving method for eggs and oocysts. Simultaneously, the relationships of the rearing pattern and age of goats with parasitic infection were analyzed. The results showed that the infection rate of T. gondii was 0%( 0/200).A total of ten intestinal parasites including four nematodes, one tapeworm and five coccidia were found in the fecal samples and the overall infection rate was 87. 37%( 166/190). Trichostrongylidae in helminth and Eimeria arloingi in coccidia were found to be the dominant species.Of all the samples 79. 47%( 151/190) were of mixed infection. The goats above 6 months old( 100%) were more susceptible to parasitic infection than those( 70%) below 6 months old( OR = 1. 43,95% CI = 1. 24 ~ 1. 65,and P = 0). Compared with goats raised in high beds( 82. 86%),the goats reared on the ground( 100%) had the higher risk of parasitic infection( OR = 1. 21,95% CI = 1. 12 ~ 1. 30,P =0. 02). These results provide a theoretical basis for prevention and control of parasitic diseases in goats in the Yangzhou area.
