Role of Non-wood Forest in New Socialist Countryside Construction in China

Non-wood forest play an important and indispensable part in new socialist countryside and rural community construction at hilly and mountainous areas in China. Therefore,the State Forestry Administration and other central government ministries and commissions decided to launch the campaign which called on establishing green homestead and constructing new wealthy countryside in China since 2006,to show vitality and promote development of civilization and wealth through afforestation.As one of the five major categories of forest tree,non-wood forest has the advantage of quick income and higher profits,and global optimization of ecological,economic and social benefits was realized in non-wood forest producing.The significance of non-wood forest in new socialist countryside and rural community construction was discussed from two aspects.Firstly,it could protect and promote ecological environment at new countryside or rural community by establishing green homestead,and a natural ecological barrier for residential environment,agriculture,grazing and water,thus an environment-friendly society construction and harmony between people and nature were promoted.Secondly,an industrialization system realizing quantity production could be established,relying on special resource advantage of non-wood forest and science and technology progress,thus based on effectively converting resource advantage into economic advantage,a resource-conserving society would be constructed,and new socialist countryside and rural community construction was guided into the sustainable way to wealth and civilization.
