From the cross between cabbage ( Brassica oleracea L. 2n = 18,CC) and Chinese cabbage ( B. pekinensis Rupr. 2n = 20, AA ) followed by em-bryo culture (30 days after pollination then removing the hybrid embryos into culture), 10 hybrids plants were obtained. The authors performed morphological and karyological observations. All the hybrid plants were morphologically alike, intermediate between cabbage and Chinese cabb-age and showed rather vigorous growth. Two of them were fertile and gave ample seed setting, while the other 8 hybrids were highly sterile. Karyological studies showed that each of these hybrids had 38 chromo-somes. Their chromosome configurations at diakinesis can be represented as (0-2) Ⅳ (19-5) Ⅱ . As has been pointed out in the text the quadri-valents here formed are probably due to allosyndesis among the chro-mosomes of 2 different constituent genomes A and C. In spite of the ap-pearance of quadrivalents, anaphase I was fairly normal and the distri-bution of chromosomes (19:19) was observed in P.M.C. at late anaphase Ⅰ. And therefore they were amphidiploids. The karyological observations on the P.M.C. of the other 8 hy-brids showed that there were usually a lot of bivalents at diakinesis. Thefrequency of pairing between the two homoeologous chromosomes ingenome A and C varied from 811 to 911.
