海棠素有"国艳"之美誉,品种繁多,栽培历史悠久,文化底蕴深厚。本文概述了中国园林绿化中已经应用或有潜在应用价值的海棠资源,总结了海棠的文化内涵,阐述了海棠在古典和现代园林中的配置方式和应用形式,指出了海棠资源在园林应用方面存在的问题,并提出开发对策,展望了其应用前景。

摘  要：
Apples and crabapples (Malus spectabilis) are grown for their showy flowers and attractive brightly-colored fruit, and have numerous species. China has a long history of cultivating apples/crabap- ples and has a deep cultural connotation in cultivating them. According to the literature available overviewed were the apples/crabapples resources which have been used or have potential application value in landscape architecture in China, and the expressional forms of their culture in cultivating and appreciat- ing them were summarized. The disposition and application forms in the classical and modern landscape architecture were described. The problems which affect their development and application in landscape are pointed out, and their solutions and prospects put forward.
