摘  要:
Jiangsu Province lies to the west of the Yellow Sea, with a shoreline of 900-odd km(Chen et. al, 1988). There exist 700 300 ha of coastal saline soils above the sea (0 m line), of which 409 200 ha, 58%, are localised outside the sea dyke, while other291 100 ha or 42% are distributed inside the dyke. The second soil survey in the province showed four subgroups of coastal saline soils, which are classified as tidal-flat saline soil (345 600 ha), meadow saline soil (70 200 ha), boggy saline soil (38 000 ha) and fluvo-aquic saline soil (246 500 ha) (General Soil Survey Office of Jiangsu Province, 1994). The reclaimable land resources, which refer to the lands of 83 200 ha stretching between the dyke and the average high tide line, and the lands of 59 800 ha inside the dyke, total up to 143 000 ha. Since late 1988, an experimental area of 33.33 ha for integrated amelioration of coastal saline soils at Rudong Cotton Farm has been set up jointly by the Soil and Fertilizer Technique Popularization Stationof Jiangsu Province and the Soil and Fertilizer Technique Popularization Station of Rudong County, in order to seek new ways of ameliorating coastal saline soils.
