With different independent variables being selected, Richards growth model and Schumacher growth model were used to simulate the basal area of Larynx lenses and Cunningham lancelet plantation and the simulant result were compared with correlation coefficient and simulant precision. The result showed that Schumacher model was better than that of Richard model whether the number of trees per hectare or stand density index (SDI) was included in both models at the same time. Richards growth models with stand density index (SDI) as an independent variable had obviously better performance than those with the number of trees per hectare. Schumacher growth models with stand density index (SDI) as an independent variable had slightly better performance than those with the number of trees per hectare. Because the number of trees per hectare was easily measured and Schumacher growth model is simple, it was suggested that the model be used to predict the basal area in practice and also as compatible model for thinning and control.
