To study the effects of high copper on the thymus and bursa of Fabricius in the chicken,420 one-day-old Avian chickens were randomly divided into seven groups, and fed on diets as follows:1.controls(Cu 11mg/kg) and 2.high copper(Cu 100 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅰ;Cu 200 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅱ;Cu 300 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅲ;Cu 400 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅳ;Cu 500 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅴ;Cu 600 mg/kg,high copper group Ⅵ) for six weeks. The results as follows:In comparison with those of control group, chicken thymus and bursa histology of copper groupⅠ,Ⅱdid not change significantly, and both of the volume and weight increased, high copper Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ group chicken thymus and bursa structure, the number of lymphocytes chicken thymus and bursa histology of copper group Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ reduced significantly, and the volume was reduced, and weight decreased. It was concluded that dietary copper content of 100~200 mg/kg could promote the development of thymus and bursa of chicken, and dietary copper more than 300 mg/kg could inhibit the development of thymus and bursa of the chicken at different levels.
