Using 8 years old half-sib progenies of Pinus massoniana stand from seed orchard of Jingshan County,Hubei Province as materials, growth factors such as diameter at breast height(DBH),tree height, height under branch, crown diameter and timber volume were measured. Results showed that there were significant differences for growth factors measured among different half-sib progenies, indicating that there were abundant genetic variation among half-sib progenies and potentials for selection. The heritability values of height,DBH and timber volume of 8 years old P.massoniana stand were 0.7436,0.6055 and 0.6500,respectively.Using 20% as selection percentage,5 superior half-sib progenies families could be selected, and genetic gains of timber volume, height and DBH were 51.34%,17.45% and 22.19%,respectively.
