Based on the Landsat images of Yangzhou city from 1980 to 2018, we employed various methods(e.g. land use analysis, landscape pattern analysis, and landscape connectivity analysis) to analyze the spatiotemporal patterns and their evolution characteristics of wetland ecological space. Results showed that:(1) the area of wetlands increased by 10.2%, and kept the increase trend from 1990 to 2010, and then tended to be stable from 2010 to 2018.(2) The landscape fragmentation and patch dominance of wetlands were increased with more complicated patch shape and edge, and the attenuating spatial pattern complexity and aggregation. Although the area of wetlands increased with higher landscape connectivity, the landscape fragmentation worsened. This article demonstrates that the wetlands of Yangzhou city were well protected between 1980 and 2018, but the ecological spatial pattern of wetland still needs to be further optimized.
