The experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of different active dry yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)levels on production performance, nutrient digestibility, serum indices and ruminal fermentation of lactating dairy cows. A total of Forty-five healthy Chinese Holstein lactating dairy cows were randomly assigned into 3 groups with 15 cows in each group based on the similar weight, parity, milk yield, lactation days and the content of milk, namely the control group Ⅰ_0 without ADY supplementation, trial group Ⅱ_2 with 2 g/d and trial group Ⅲ_5 with 5 g/d respectively, All diets were provided as TMR.The feeding trail period was 60 d, the pre-experimental period was 1 week. The results showed as fellows: compared with the control group Ⅰ_0, the dry matter intake, milk yield, 4% fat correction milk production in trial group Y5 increased 1.23 kg/d, 0.99 kg/d, 1.92 kg/d and 7.2% respectively(P<0.05);Compared with group Ⅰ_0, group Ⅲ_5 could significantly increase DMI, milk yield, 4% fat correction milk production and milk fat yield 1.23 kg, 0.99 kg, 1.92% and 7.2% respectively(P <0.05); while others milk composition between each treatment group had no significant difference(P>0.05); There was no remarkable effects of feeding active dry yeast on rumen total VFA, acetate and butyrate concentration(P>0.05); compared with control group, the content of propionate in rumen fluid of trial group Ⅲ_5 significantly increased(P<0.05), while the ration of acetate and propionate decreased(P<0.05);Active dry yeast had the potential to improve the apparent digestibility of DM(P=0.20), CP(P=0.17), NDF(P=0.40) and ADF(P=0.25). In conclusion, 0.025% active dry yeast can be used for dairy cows to promote the propionate fermentation in the rumen, decrease the ration of acetate and propionate, improve the energy utilize efficiency, DMI, milk performance and fat yield of lactating Holstein dairy cow, which has an economic benefit.
