Activities of three protective enzymes (SOD,CAT and POD) and content of free radical were measured in larva and adult of Plagiodera versicolora fed with the leaves of Salix babylonica under different Pb stresses by spectrophotometric determination. Results show that three antioxidant enzyme activities and free radical content increase first and then decrease with increasing concentrations of Pb. That is to say,low concentrations of Pb increased the activities of SOD,CAT and POD,while high concentrations of Pb decreased enzyme activities. There was a very significant difference between the control and all the treatments (p<0.01). POD activity of 2nd and 3rd larvae changed little and was obviously lower than that of adult (p<0.01),indicating that the adult has stronger resistant ability to Pb stress than the larvae.
