晚清民国时期的澜沧曾辖今澜沧、孟连、西盟县全部及双江县上改心,沧源县的岩帅、勐角、勐董、班洪等地。地域十分广阔、民族众多,辖区内有土司、粮目等世袭权力组织,民族关系也极为复杂。
