This paper mainly describes the effect of the application of the binary paper strengthening system—cation\|polyacrylamide(CPAM) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). By controlling the conditions of synthesizing the CPAM and using CMC, the authors tested the effects of the amount of the two substances being used and the initial pH of the pulp on the strength of paper. The purpose of the experiment is to try to find the optimal condition of synthesizing the CPAM and using CPAM/CMC binary system. The resuts are as follows: ①the synthetic condition applied in this experiment could make CPAM more accurately within certain molecular weight, and could be applied in the production.② As to CPAM with 0 3% synthetic initiator, its molecular weight ranged from 300 000 to 350 000 , and had better effects on paper physical properties. ③ The paper physical properties were improved with the input of CPAM/CMC , and when the rate of CPAM/CMC reached 1∶0 6,the result was better. ④ When pulps pH was around 7 0, the effect of CPAM/CMCs paper strength was the best.
