摘要：

John Webster (1925-2014) was born at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England. He studied Botany at the University College, Nottingham, for two years during the Second World War, graduating with First-Class Honours (London University External) and a University of London research scholarship in 1945. He began research at Nottingham on soil fungi under the supervision of Charles Chesters, but after a year's research was appointed to the Botany Department of the University College, Hull. In 1950, John moved to the Botany Department of the University of Sheffield.
