Based on the collecting data of routine monitoring points in the north region of 2011—2016 and supplementary monitoring points in the whole region of Xinghai Lake and surrounding water regions of 2017,the comprehensive nutrition state index method was used for eutrophication assessment to understand the temporal and spatial variation of the nutrient status of Xinghai Lake. On the basis of the survey data analysis, the causes of eutrophication pollution were analyzed. The results showed that in recent years, the nutrient status of Xinghai Lake had a trend of deterioration, and the water quality of the routine monitoring points had changed from slightly eutrophic in 2011—2014 to moderately eutrophic in 2015—2016. Supplementary monitoring data showed that different water areas of Xinghai Lake were polluted differently, and mild, moderate and severe eutrophication occurring at the same time. The main pollution sources of Xinghai Lake are fishery cultivation, domestic sewage, water recharging in the Yellow River, mountain floods water, dry and wet deposition, among which fishery cultivation and water input contributed most to pollution.
