Based on the basic requirements of China Certified Emission Reduction( CCER) carbon afforestation project methodology and local situations, five assessment indicators such as land qualification, carbon sequestration potential, ecological importance, economic conditions and afforestation risk were selected to analyses the potential and preferential region of carbon sequestration afforestation projects in Qinghai Province. The results are shows that the total area of suitable qualified plots for carrying out CCER carbon sequestration afforestation projects is 364. 47×104hm2,accounted for 48. 2 % of the total area of forest in Qinghai Province. The preferential region of carbon sequestration afforestation projects was mainly distributed in east and south of Qinghai Province. Its total area is168. 77× 104hm2,accounted for 46. 3 % of the total area of qualified plots. Datong County,Ledu County and Huzhu county are more priority area for carbon sequestration afforestation projects in Qinghai Province.
