To investigate Babesia bigemina infection and to assess associated risk factors in dairy cattle in northwest China of Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a total of 1 657 serum samples were collected and examined for the specific antibodies to B. bigemina by commercial available ELISA kits. The overall B. bigeminaseroprevalence was 8.09%(134/1 657). Risk factors associated with B. bigemina infection were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analysis, and the results showed that the geographical region was regarded as an important risk factor with B. bigemina infection in the present study(P < 0.05). This study filled the blanks of epidemiological data about B. bigemina infection and would be helpful to prevent further B. bigemina infection in dairy cattle in northwest China.
