In order to determine the indicative function of plant N(Nitrogen)∶P(Phosphorus)stoichiometry characteristics on the nutrient status, the effect of N-P additions on the aboveground biomass and the N∶P stoichiometry characteristics of natural community on the sub-alpine grassland located in northeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were examined. The results showed that N and N+P addition promoted aboveground biomass while P addition inhibited it,which suggested the grassland was mainly N-limited.The N∶P ratios of community in 2008 and 2009 were 11.57 and 9.83 respectively, confirming the Nlimitation in the area. The N contents of community in 2008 and 2009 were 20.34mg/g and 16.03mg/g respectively, which were higher than the critical value 13mg/g.The N-P plots were also below the critical curve(P% =0.15+0.065N%)proposed from lowlands. In summary, the low N∶P ratio indicated the N-limitation properly for the sub-alpine grassland, while the critical value of N content and the critical curve of optimal N-P still need to be discussed.
