In order to investigate the influence of soil tillage management on soil mechanical physical characteristics and soil permeability, we studied soil strength profile and soil water infiltration curves in deep ripping, compaction and control treatment, respectively. The results showed that: 1) The values of soil strength decreased in the sequence of compaction > control > deep ripping at the depth of 0- 25 cm and deep ripping > compaction > control at the depth of 25- 40 cm. However, the influence of all treatments on soil strength weakened with time. 2) Although Philip equation fitted the infiltration curves well, the infiltration curves of the different treatment had large variation. 3)Philip's infiltration equations of three treatments were calibrated by using the calibration theory. The representative curves showed that deep ripping had the greatest initial infiltration rate, whilst control treatment had the intermediate one, and compaction had the lowest. The stable infiltration rate was in the order of control > compaction > deep ripping. The results implied that the influence of deep ripping and compaction on soil water infiltration was significantly different. Deep ripping not only improved the infiltration capacity, but also restrained the deep percolation.
