To rationally analyze the relationship between the soil erosion and the ecological, economic and social factors in the plateau mountains in the Jinshajiang River valley, the paper regards the Jinshajiang River valley in part of Yunnan Province in southwestern China as an open social economic natural complex ecosystem, based on the theory of large scale complex systems. This system has the features of multilevel, multifactor, multidimensionality, correlativity, dispersibility, unsteadiness and activity. The mathematic model (canonical correlation analysis, CCA) is employed to study the natural ecological subsystem, the social and economic subsystem, the variables of soil erosion and their correlations. The results show that the population growth, farming, forest degradation and fuel wood cutting are the canonical factors causing the soil erosion in the plateau mountains. The research provides a scientific base for correctly recognizing the complex system and coordinating the relationships among the subsystems.
