Based on morphological observations on the 3rd instar larvae of a Hypoderma species infecting Tibetan antelopes from Kekexili (Hoh Xil), we found that their pseudocephalon, the spines on the tenth ventral segment and the shape of spiracular plates show lots of differences from those of H. bovis, H. lineatum and H. sinense, which all occur in China. The molecular analysis of mitochondrial gene encoding the subunit I of cytochrome oxidase (COI) also showed that the similarity between the H. sp. from Tibetan antelopes and H.bovis, H. lineatum and H. sinense were 88.1%, 87.8% and 88.8%, respectively. Therefore, the H. sp. found in Tibetan antilopes is believed to be a new or newly recorded species of warble fly in China, a fourth species of Hypoderma in China.
