Leaf blades of 11 species of trees, such as Elaeocarpus decipiens, on conditions of separation and pot culture, were treated with saturated solution of sodium chloride to simulate stress of salt fog. From observation of symptoms of salt damage and time limitation and determination of physiological indexes, including chlorophyll content, free proline content, SOD activity and MDA content, the results showed that the order of salt fog tolerance of different tissues was that leaf >tinder leaf >bud. Salt fog tolerance of the leaf blades cultured in pot was higher than that in vitro. Salt fog tolerance of broad leaved trees was higher than that of coniferous trees. The order of salt fog tolerance of the treated seven species of trees was that Myrica rubra > Schima superba> Elaeocarpus decipiens> Castanea mollissima cv. ercijieshibanli> Pinus elliottii Engelm> Liquidamber formosana> Pinus massoniana.
