The lower temperature limit for rice seedlings survival in the fields is about 14℃ in Liaoning Province. The safety growth amount in the peak of vegetative growing season is 30, 000-40, 000/m~2 for variety "Xinyin-1" and 25, 000-30, 000/m~2 for combination "Dawn Hybrid". The active accumulated temperature is 900℃ for the former and 800℃ for the latter. There is a linear correlation between head stage and the accumulated temperature before heading. Heading is moved up as the accumulated temperature increases. The effect of sunshine time (ranging from 6 to ll hours) on growth is not significant before heading; but after heading it becomes a key factor for seed setting and maturing. Average temperature below 20℃ in seedling stage and below 19℃ in peak seed-setting stage will lead to "delayed" type of cold injury for variety "Xinyin-1". Average temperature below 23℃ in flowering stage and maximum temperaturebelow 26℃ will cause "obstacle" type of cold injury. According to the distribution of local heat quantity, the varieties grown and their indexes of accumulated temperature in different rice-producing areas of Liaoning Province, six climatic types and rice variety growing regions were divided. It is necessary to reserve 250—300℃ of maximum utilizable accumulated temperature as a safety coefficient of rice growing when heat quantity is used as the main factor to determine the maturity divisions of rice varieties. In order to avoid cold injury and to make full use of heat resource, it is inadvisable to grow varieties with too long or too short growing periods.
