The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources and China:the 30th annual meeting

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources,established by The Convention of the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources,is a regional fisheries management organization with responsibility for conservation of marine living resources within the Antarctic Convergence.China has become a member of this Commission since October 2007.Taking the 30th meeting of the Commission as an example,this paper analysed the operation and latest tendency of the Commission and the role of which China has played.Firstly,the paper articulated the basic structure of the Commission meeting and the main topics discussed within the Standing Committee of Implementation and Compliance,such as implementation and revision of conservation measures,IUU fishing,Catch Documentation Scheme,etc;Secondly,the utilization and management two main fisheries in the Southern Ocean,krill and toothfish fisheries,have been explored;Thirdly,three topics relating to China have been forwarded,including delisting two Chinese fishing vessels,application of CDS in Hong Kong,and IMO number.At the end are some observations of the next meeting in 2012 and proposals to improve capacity of Chinese delegation.
