An experiment of flood tolerance or mixed inoculation with VA-and ectomycorrhizal fungi of Populus tomentosa was carried out under field condition. The results showed that effect of single of mixed inoculation with Sclerodema sp. and Glomus geosporum of G. constrictum on height growth of the host plant was strongly restrained when flooding long occurred soon after mycorrhizal inoculation. In this case, it had even a negative effect on height growth of the host plant inoculating with G. geosporum. The cause was that foliage growth of the host plant was restrained by the long flooding, so that accumulative ability of photosynthate of the host plant was weakened. Flooding had no great influence on photosynthesis and transpiration of the host plant inoculated with the mycorrhizal fungi, which had a same pattern of daily variation as it under normal condition. The negative interactions among VA-and ecto-mycorrhizae was still reflected in the photosynthesis of the host plant. In addition flooding had also a great influence on reproduction of G. geosporum and G. constrictum in soil.G.geosporum showed greater flood tolerance than it of G.constrictum.
