Existence of diffused neuroendocrine system(DNES)cells in the corpus luteum of dairy goat has been determined by an immunohistochemistry streptavidin-peroxidase(SP)method. Using the SP method, the corpus luteum of 12-18-month-old dairy goats during pregnancy were studied and the following cell types were identified throughout the corpus luteum: oxytocin, neuron specific enolase, S-100 protein, synaptophysin, 5-hydroxytryptamine immunoreactive cells. The cells existed as individual or clustered. They were round, oval or triangle in shape. Some cells have obvious neuritis. The immunoreactive cells in one section in descending order were oxytocin, synaptophysin, S-100 protein, neuron specific enolase and 5-hydroxytryptamine. The existence of DNES cells was inferred from the presence of neuron specific enolase, S-100 protein, synaptophysin and 5-hydroxytryptamine which are the broad-spectrum markers for DNES.
