To study hepato protective effect of Spiraea pubescens in mice with acute hepatic injury induced by ethanol, fifty male mice were randomly divided into five groups:control group, model group and three different Spiraea pubescens doses test groups.Ethanol was administered to the test group and model group in a dose of 12 mL/kg body weight. The activities of ALT and AST in the blood serum, with contents of MDA and GSH in liver homogenates as well as the pathological changes of the liver were determined in all groups. The results illustrated serum ALT and AST and liver MDA in test group was significantly less than model group(P<0.05);liver GSH in test group was more than model group(P<0.05).This indicated Spiraea pubescens has a powerful protective effect on ethanol-induced acute hepatic injury, the liver necrosis and degeneration induced by enthanol were also improved significantly by Spiraea pubescens.
