摘  要:
The rice armoured beetle, Hispa armigera Oliv., is a serious pest of ricein South China. During the Summer of 1951 a series of field experimentswere conducted with various insecticides for the control of this beetle in Kwang-tung Province. The following insecticides were used: Derris, tobacco-lime powder,acid lead arsenate, calcium arsenate, sodium fluoaluminate, benzene hexachloride,D. D. T., pulverized root bark of the thunder-god-vine (Tripterygium ForrestiiLoes.) and the bitter-tree (Celastrus angulata, Maxim.). Preliminary experi-ments showed that dusting with 0.5%γ benzene hexachloride or 5% D. D. T.was most effective. The thunder-god-vine was found to be very promising.The effectiveness of a finely ground root bark powder was equal to that of a0.5%γ benzene hexachloride or a 5% D. D. T. dust. The root bark powdercaused some burning on young rice leaves which, however, can be prevented bythe addition of tobacco powder. With the exception of sodium fluoaluminatethe other insecticides were all toxic to the beetle, but not as effective asbenzene hexachloride, D. D. T. or the thunder-god-vine powder. A thunder-god-vine tobacco powder mixture (1:1) is recommended for further field ex-periments on the control of the rice armoured beetle in seed-beds.
