The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of pigeon meat on wound healing in traumatic rats. Sixty SD rats with successful modeling were randomly divided into three groups of 20 rats each. The control group was fed basal diet, group A fed basal diet + 20% pigeon meat, and group B fed basal diet + 30% pigeon meat. At 3, 7 and 14 days after injury, the shape of the wound was described and the wound healing rate was calculated. Meanwhile, the skin specimens near the wounds, paraffin-embedded sections and H & E staining were used for histopathological observation. Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor(IGF-1 R) and platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) content were measured; days of wound healing in rats were recorded. The test lasted 28 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the wound healing rate of the 7 th day and the 14 th day in the 30% pigeon meat group is significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05), and that of 20% and 30% pigeon meat groups was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05). The granulation tissue on day 14 of 20% and 30% pigeon meat group was significantly increased, and the content of IGF-1 R and PDGF in 30% control group was also significantly higher than that of the control. In summary, feeding pigeon meat can promote wound healing in rats.
