Granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor( GM-CSF) is a potent immunomodulator and vaccine adjuvant. Toinvestigate the immunoregulation effects of chicken GM-CSF on infectious bursal disease virus(IBDV) VP2 DNA vaccine, 14-day old SPFchickens were immunized with recombinant plasmid DNA with VP2 and GM-CSF genes, followed by challenging with IBDV BC6-85 at 2weeks post the second vaccination. The results indicated that the GM-CSF could enhance specific immune response to VP2 DNA vaccine.Additionally, the GM-CSF was found to affect the expression of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10 in serum. However, the GM-CSF had no significant effect on proliferation of peripheral blood lymphocytes. This study indicates that GM-CSF is an important im-munomodulator for the IBDV VP2 DNA vaccine.
