Objective To investigate the effect of cocoa on blood pressure in adults with or without hypertension. Method Literature searches were performed in the Pub Med,The Cochrane Library,EMbase,CNKI database and Wanfang database, the search deadline was until November 2018. Meta-analysis was performed using Rev Man 5. 3 and Stata 12. 0 software after data extraction and risk bias evaluation of the included literature by two researchers. Result Thirtyfour articles (38 eligible randomized controlled trials) were included, with a total of 1 897 participants. The results of Meta-analysis showed that compared with the control group, the chocolate or cocoa group could reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP) [ (WMD =-1. 87,95% CI(-3. 04,-0. 70),P = 0. 002] and diastolic blood pressure (DBP)[ (WMD =-1. 60,95% CI(-2. 11,-1. 08),P < 0. 001],with significant statistical differences. Conclusion Current evidence shows that chocolate or cocoa products may reduce blood pressure in adults with or without hypertension, but the effect of long-term intake of chocolate or cocoa on blood pressure need further research.
