The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between energy intake, plasma concentration of leptin and milk production. At 28 days before parturition, thirty healthy perinatal cows were randomly allocated into three groups and respectively fed with 100% energy diet (NRC standard diets), 120% energy diet and 80% energy diet. After parturition, all the cows were offered with criteria day provisions until 56 days postpartum. The results showed that dry matter intake, plasma concentration of leptin and milk production in the cows fed with 80% enengy diet during the advanced pregency parturition were significantly highger than those in the cows fed with 100% energy diet and 120% energy diet. They were significant higher in the cows fed with 100% energy diet than in the cows fed with 120% energy diet (P<0.01 or (P<0.05).) we concluded that reducing energy intake during the advanced pregenancy of diary cows could enhance dry matter intake, milk production, protein and fat in milk and plasma concentration of leptin, and alleviate negative energy equilibrium of postpartum.
